This means that if you alter the source table's data through mutations or partition operations, the materialized view's target table will not be updated to reflect those changes — there is no automatic synchronization. Users must manage this explicitly, either by rebuilding the MV's target table or by using refreshable materialized views for use cases where full-table recomputation is acceptable.
